It’s that time of year where we get together with our family and loved ones, talk about all the things we have to be thankful for, and, of course, eat a giant, belt-loosening meal. Everyone has their favorite Thanksgiving dishes. For some, it’s the classic turkey and gravy.

For others, it’s a special side dish like mac n’ cheese, collard greens, or mashed potatoes. Those with a sweet tooth might find that the smorgasbord of pies, baked goods, and other desserts are the highlight of the day.

Regardless of the preferred dish, everyone knows that the very best baked goods for the holidays are the kind that get you baked. This year, instead of looking for where to buy CBD edibles, let’s learn how to make CBD edibles!

How To Make Cannabutter

For many great edible recipes, the first step starts with making a batch of cannabutter. This will be a base for all of our Thanksgiving recipes, and you can use this technique to make simple edibles like weed brownies in the future.

Before we can start making our cannabutter, we first have to activate our cannabis through a process called decarboxylation. Skipping this step will result in an edible that may taste like weed but won’t have any of the psychoactive effects.

To decarboxylate your bud, preheat your oven to 245 degrees, and place your cannabis flower on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake the cannabis for 30-40 minutes, mixing the buds around every 10 minutes. You’ll want the cannabis to start turning brown but not burn. Now that your cannabis is decarboxylated go ahead and grind it up.

Next, add 1 cup of water and 1 cup of butter to a large saucepan. Simmer on low until the butter begins to melt, then add your ground decarboxylated cannabis. Continue simmering the mixture for around 2-3 hours, making sure to stir occasionally and not let the mixture come to a boil.

After simmering, strain the mixture using a cheesecloth into a jar, and refrigerate.

Now that you know how to make cannabutter, here’s some cannabutter edible recipes to put it to use!

How To Make Weed Candy

Nothing brings joy like a piece of candy. There are two pieces of equipment you might not have lying around the house for this recipe—a candy thermometer and candy molds

Step 1: melt 2 tbsp of cannabutter in a saucepan.

Step 2: add ¼ cup distilled water, 1 cup of sugar, ½ cup of corn syrup to the saucepan, whisking the mixture until the sugar completely dissolves.

Step 4: add 2 drops of your preferred food coloring and one tbsp of lemon extract.

Step 3: bring mixture to a rapid boil. Using your candy thermometer, remove from heat when the mixture hits 300 degrees Fahrenheit and cool to around 225 degrees Fahrenheit.

Step 4: pour the mixture into candy molds and let it harden.

Baked mac n’ cheese is a big favorite at my Thanksgiving table, but this recipe adds a new meaning to the word “baked.”

Step 1: cook 1 lb of elbow macaroni around 2 minutes less than package instructions. Drain and set aside

Step 2: preheat the oven to 375, and melt 6 tbsps of cannabutter in a pot over medium heat. Once it’s melted, add 6 tbsps of flour while quickly stirring, making sure to scrape the sides and bottom of your pot.

Step 3: add 1 diced onion, then 4 cups of heavy cream slowly to the butter and flour mixture while whisking. Continue to stir for around 6 minutes until the sauce thickens.

Step 5: remove from heat and add 10 ounces of shredded colby jack cheese, stirring until the cheese melts into the sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Step 6: add cooked and drained pasta to the cheese mixture, stirring well, then transfer into a 9x13 baking dish. Cover with more shredded cheese.

Step 7: bake for 30 minutes.
